Volunteering in Haiti Earthquake 091

On January 12, 2010 Haiti was hit by one of the worst natural disasters to occur in over 200 years. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the capital, Port-au-Prince, a city which over 3 million people resided. This catastrophic earthquake has left over 200,000 dead, 300,000 injured, 2 million homeless, and over 400,000 orphans in its aftermath.

United Relief Force Foundation has assisted countless earthquake victims during their time of need. We have worked tirelessly alongside doctors, providing translation and moving patients, assisted the United Nations with food, water and tent distribution, as well as visited various orphanages throughout Port-au-Prince and Gonaives, providing food and clothing to the countless number of orphans. While efforts in Haiti have been tremendous, there is still a great deal of work to be done. Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere had been struggling for years with hunger, poverty, disease and poor education prior to the earthquake. Now after the tragic events of January 12, 2010, hunger, poverty, disease and poor education has in fact escalated. Although many have survived the earthquake, these people are slowly dying because these needs are not being fulfilled. The Haitian people need our help now more than ever!
